Hello! This is a very special video We come back to the good times of the beginning of the videos Everything done on a mobile phone And today we are in a rather special and original environment We are in the south of Senegal In a region called Casamance You are going to tell me, what am I doing in Casamance?
I came to Casamance to find a person I followed his trail until now and I found her trace in the south of Casablanca. You may remember, for those who follow Miriam's videos, two years ago she testified that she had got rid of alcohol and heroin by changing her lifestyle by drinking juices.
And I remember that at the time there were people who were a bit of a go-getter who said to me, yes, but it's short-lived success, and she's going to fall again, how can we pretend to change to that point simply with food?
Well, I found Miriam's trace and we'll see that things went even better than we could have imagined. Hi Myriam! Hi Thierry! I'm glad to see you here. It's a nice excuse to come to the south of Senegal. It's been two years since we recorded our video that I will link to your testimony.
Can you say it again in a few words for the people who were not there two years ago? Well, it's been a year since I stopped drinking and you heard about me when I replaced alcohol. Exactly. the page that I had opened on Facebook and I explained that I had stopped drinking and the fact that I started drinking juices and eating only fruits and vegetables helped me a lot yes, you testified of your experience and how much it helped to get rid of addictive behaviors absolutely I can see that in...
I will say the food behavior in any case, when I started drinking juices I got stronger and stronger. The desire for alcohol still remains, of course, we shouldn't give up, but we can fight them better.
Yes, we have more resources. We have much more resources, we are calmer, we are more centered. In any case, I noticed that as soon as we leave our diet, I mean, our living diet, when we eat pasta again, when we eat sandwiches again, when we eat meat from time to time, well, there we have the energy that decreases, so we increase the desire I noticed that when I deviate, the desires come back as soon as I come
back to my diet of juice, fruit, vegetables, only natural things the desires disappear, it's incredible we will come back to it I wanted to start at the beginning because at the time when I recorded this video there were a lot of people, or at least a few people to tell me, yes it's too easy, the girl has lost weight from one day to the next by drinking juices, but she will recover very quickly we can not have real improvements, there is no relationship between the diet the overall hygiene of life and alcohol
addiction and so it's easy to record a testimony like that in two months anyway she will have regressed come and see! tell us, since then, because there are many things Because when we met, you were in Liège, you were already walking in the streets of Liège and you had an operation called Give the Banana where you photographed people who were in the street to whom you offered a banana I did not photograph them, if I photographed them it was to put a little image on the page Give the Banana Yes okay, the goal was not to photograph
That's it. So when I left the store with my bags full of bananas, my bags full of good fruits and vegetables for my judges and I saw these people sleeping outside in the middle of winter, I said to myself, but what could I do for them?
He came to me with the idea of giving them a banana. The banana is complete in terms of vitamins, it fills the stomach. We don't need teeth to eat it. It's sweet, it's sweet, everyone loves it.
So that's how it was born. I gave bananas to the homeless. And now here in Senegal, I have a small banana tree that I bought thanks to all the people who helped me and who believe in my project to help others with living food.
So how did you end up in Senegal? I arrived in Senegal by pure chance, really by chance Yes, by chance with a big D Yes, by chance with a big D, it was a Biennale of artists in Dakar So I participated in the Biennale, I did exhibitions with my photos And then I discovered in La Crosse a banana tree I bought it by phone with my little savings as a photographer And then I came here, I started growing bananas I also cultivated papayas, and here, there is no shortage of people to whom to
give these fruits, because there are a lot of people who do not have the means to pay for fruits. They eat a lot of rice, a lot of fish, because it does not cost much, while fruits still cost a little more.
A bit like everywhere else, in France it's the same problem. We buy a kilo of rice for 350 francs, we buy a kilo of bananas for 600 or 700, or even 800 francs. CFA. So when you have 10 children, you still need kilos and kilos of bananas, while with this money you can buy a lot of fish and a lot of rice.
So most people feed them fish. That's it, it's rice three times a day, sometimes in some families. So Donne la Banane is to feed children regularly with fresh fruits, local fruits. So we have other projects, we have a pilot village too, I learn from my mother, to cook with less cubes, because here it's the big...
And I can testify, we did the experiment cruelly, 2-3 days ago, in a restaurant, there was rice that was served, and the kids took rice in which there were the famous magic cubes, and they didn't realize it, they thought it was local rice, while in fact there was a lot more, and well, glutamate has done damage to the mood, yesterday and the day before yesterday, we saw the state of excitement of children and everything, it's amazing.
And indeed, everywhere there are ads for magic broths, magic cubes, or anything else, it's incredible, they use it everywhere. And a lot, and a lot, so they can put 4, 5, even 6 for a family of 5, so let's say 10 children, 10 people can put 5 to 6 cubes.
a lot of fat too, palm oil, which is not so good, which is really not good, let's be honest, it's really the low quality, rice comes from China, it's broken rice, it's not even rice.
Yes, because in Casamance, there are people who produce their rice, but on the side of Dakar, poverty does not allow, people have no land anyway. I was amazed to learn that half of the population of Senegal was grouped in Dakar so it's an empty country with a huge concentration and a huge poverty in the Dakar region while in the south there are thousands and thousands of wild fruit trees here we are in the forest, in a wild forest when we walk around to come here we meet mangos,
we meet cashews Actually, it's the season of cashews, and I discovered the fruit of the cashew, which is not the nut of the cashew, there is the nut of the cashew and there is the fruit, which is a wild fruit, extraordinary, really a wild fruit with a very unique taste, but the children here do not miss these fruits, and then there are the mangoes, we have two months ahead on the mangoes, but when I see these mango trees, we'll have to do version 3 of our video in
two months, because... You come when you want, you come when you want. So there is Donne la Banane, so there is this banana farm that is in La Crosse. I am visiting here in the south of Senegal because there are many more banana farms in large production.
So I'm trying to find people who are committed to Donne la Banane and who provide me a few kilos a month, even 300, a ton of bananas a month. You just dropped 300 kilos. I just lost 300 kilos.
So there is this witness village near La Crosse, where we inform all mothers to use less fat, less sugar and less cubes in their cuisine. Coming back to a traditional cuisine. Traditional cuisine, all the aromatic herbs that there are, there is also the opening of a juice bar and also a fruit salad bar, and sandwiches, let's say natural.
We're going to use a little bit of the bread we're seeing to make coconut bread, but we're not going to make coconut bread. So you have to dry the coconut, flour it, and from there you can make coconut bread. But we're going to change it very slowly, we're not going to create shocks.
Because if we remove their bread, they're going to say they're going to be lost. On the other hand, what we can already put on the bread are less fat, less sugar. Less transformed. Exactly, so there is that and now the big news is a detoxification and detoxification center in the south of the country, in Casamance, where we will welcome two people at the same time to help them get out of alcohol, get out of drugs thanks to a living diet, of course vegetables,
fruits, good local vegetables, with a work of 3 to 4 hours a day in the vegetable garden, in permaculture, yoga, meditation, walking, swimming, fishing, there is everything for here. It happens where we are, where I was welcomed, at Martaba and Youssou.
Two people, I said it off camera, at Meriam, really among the great meetings I have had in recent years, 2 young people, 28 years old, Marthaba is about 30 years old, 2 very young people who are on the right path, and we will talk about it later.
So, tell me, you push, you push, you direct the video as you want, but I have some questions to ask you. You radically changed your lifestyle and your way of life, you went on an adventure in Senegal, because what you don't say to the camera is that these projects seem great and pharaonic, In fact, these are projects that are done with very, very, very little means.
When we see at Martaba and Youssou, for example, this detoxification center, that I find a place where we have been for a week, we are welcomed in conditions that are just perfect for me, but also in a total simplicity.
There is no electricity, there is no current, we draw water from the well every morning, there are rooms that are perfect for me in the middle of the forest, very simple. so, what interests me is, when people discover this message, these videos, we are going to say that in these videos, i don't make the apology of the salaried work, of the industrial slavery, of working like a madman all your life for a boss, i rather say to people,
change your life, come back to earth, and often, what people say to me is, ok, it's possible, but only for money-rich people, i don't have any, and how can i do it?
You are someone, when I met you, you had very little means. When you arrived in Senegal, you arrived with almost nothing. In addition, they stole everything from me.
Yes, it's true, there is this story. They swindled me, so I arrived here with 3,000 euros. I had to finish the house, I had to finish a lot of things.
So I found myself almost without anything from the beginning. So I managed, I did painting, I did massages. And then I made calls too, thanks to you, thanks to this little report in La Clameur, I met people, thank you Extraordinary people who helped me, who sent me a donation Ibrahim and Radha Ibrahim and Radha who have a dental clinic in Dakar They are Lebanese I confirm, they are the ones who welcomed us on the
first night Yes, they are wonderful, they helped me a lot, a lot So, surrounded by all this, it starts, and then God is great God is great.
Spiritual life becomes the priority. The more we get rid of the toxins of the body, the more we become light. We enter into a spirituality, we enter into a gift to the other. We don't crack anymore.
That is, we live so much in the present moment, we don't crack too much for tomorrow. We try to fulfill our mission in the present, in the moment. It's today that I want to give bananas, it's not tomorrow.
Now, how do I do it? Well, as I repeat, God is great, it always happens at the right time. Yes, sometimes at the last moment. At the last moment, I can end up with 3,000 francs, I have nothing left.
3,000 francs CFA. CFA. 3,000 francs CFA, that's about... 4.50 euros. Yes, no, that's a lot, 3,000 francs CFA, said like that, it's very exorbitant, but 4.50 euros, on the other hand, it calms down a little bit.
Yes, it calms down directly. Well, that's when I'm going to have an appointment for a massage. I can have 5 massages in a day, it gives me enough money, in the hotels in the neighborhood, it gives me enough money to live practically a month by giving bananas always, because I have my own production of bananas, but I buy bananas when I don't have enough production Yes, because you found someone who gave you a piece of land, what's his name again?
Mamnar, the old Mamnar. The venerable Mamnar who lent you a piece of land on which you built a small house and you planted bananas. And from that you produce? I produce my small part of bananas, and it's great, but I want to expand that, I would also like to plant bananas here, there are so many things to do here, everything is to do, really, because it's a little bit like at home in the 50s and 60s, they are overflowing with advertising,
it's monstrous, we serve them disgusting products. I think I'm going to make a video in parallel, I was not going to do it, but a video in parallel on Senegal I am especially stunned by the massive work of destruction that is done by the school system I really saw in this country how much the school system was used as a weapon of mass colonization by the values of the West in which children are removed from their traditional values and their families to put them in a kind of elsewhere which is intellectual they no longer have any contact with the earth,
and so they never come back to earth, and the countryside is being desertified, the children run to Dakar, where there is no work, but anyway, they can't do anything with their hands anymore, because they have never been in contact with the earth, and I saw some comical ads, I want to succeed and go to school, for example, you see extremely puerile messages, in front of each school, extremely puerile, and I was able to measure how much the school,
and so it's also true in the West, was really a weapon of colonization and destruction of traditional life and the richness of traditional life. And it's true that here we see in an exacerbated way what happened in 30 or 40 years in the West and that we didn't see coming, but here it's happening at full speed.
And it's true that I was also shocked, my reflection also in relation to money, I tended to relativize the influence of money, and there I measure that really money is a source of inequality, oppression and violence that I could not imagine.
and I think that after this experience, I will never be able to fight for the abolition of money, overall. But it's true that the situation there, it needs to be really supported and helped because there is a radical transformation that is happening in this country in a few years and it's going at full speed and the old people don't really understand what's going on. No, especially here with the Wi-Fi, with the telephones and all these American goods that come from China or from Asia, like Reebooks. Everything that is brand,
it really takes possession. But fortunately, there is a whole youth that has understood. Yes, that has understood. A whole youth that has understood and that returns to the traditional, that stays in nature and that avoids all that.
but there is also an overpopulation, there is an overpopulation that is taking place in Dakar in any case. So you have been able to make all these changes with very little means. Very little means, we don't have many needs, we don't have many needs anymore.
I live with practically nothing, since I don't have electricity either, I don't have running water, but what do i need? i need my fruits, my vegetables, my sun, my beach, my job that keeps me in shape the fact of giving to the other, the fact of sharing everything with the other i don't know how to explain it, it gives us serenity, we don't need anything anymore, we are filled the other fills us So I hear the critics, they will tell me,
yes, but that's possible because it is in Senegal, in Dakar, it is in Senegal, in the sun at the same time, running water, electricity, it is considered as an obligation, as a basic necessity in our society I have to testify to the pleasure I had almost every morning to go and draw water from the well I discovered, I was thinking, this is what we call the rowing in the gym once I was in the gym, I said to myself, but in fact,
guys, it would be enough for them to draw a little water from the well, it would calm them down quickly we walk a lot, we walk 2, 3, 4 hours a day we don't even realize it, we walk all the time we go from one side to the other, and the fact of watering, of taking care of the trees, of taking care of nature, of carrying, well, we do our gymnastics I don't really know what to say, because we are entering another atmosphere
of life. The more our body frees itself from toxins, the more we free ourselves from desires that are not necessary. And that's how you place food hygiene changes as the number one weapon to fight against addictions? I have noticed that every time I fall back into eating too much pasta, too much gluten, for example, gluten has a huge impact on the mind, on the morale, on our good mood, on our strength.
It's incredible. It comes back, desires come back, ease comes back. we are going to look for a compensation whereas when the body is clean, we are full of energy and this full of energy means that we don't need anything else so you didn't have any problems with alcohol, you didn't dive again?
no, i didn't dive again, never, but i wanted to Yes, following strong emotions. Emotions are not suppressed. Once again, I repeat, the more we clean ourselves, and the more things from the past resurface, what we wanted to stifle, what we wanted to dig deep into ourselves, to never talk about it again.
And that's what alcohol and drugs are for. Oh yes, we are happy, we are good, we make fun of ourselves, but we forgot what hurts us. and the more we purify the body, the more we go deeper into ourselves and then things come back, everything we had left before starting to drink is still there on the other hand there is one thing that has changed a lot is that we look at them and we confront them with other tools we are really much calmer, we don't self-accuse,
we don't self-destruct anymore so inevitably we accept there is a form of negativity and guilt that is no longer there Yes, and we accept that if we are fragile for something, if we suffer for something, it doesn't matter, we accept it, we look at it and we do everything we can to live with it, to transform ourselves and anyway, when we take care of others, well, all these little things seem ridiculous to us we say to ourselves,
why did i flash on this? it's part of the dimensions that i like to develop i tell people, there are the 4 feet of the chair to put in place, nutrition, physical exercise and everything but once we are about to stand up, the goal is not to stop there it's to start serving, because anyway man is a being of service and as you are brilliant, you are brilliant in the service, you are brilliant, I saw you with the children too, well, here in Senegal,
there are children, there are rhymes, There are smiles everywhere, it's amazing, and what you give, you receive it at a hundredfold, the attention you give, the kindness you give, you receive it at a hundredfold.
What I find very beautiful in your testimony is that you got out of a hell in which you were turned on yourself towards self-destruction, but not only did you get out of it for yourself, but as soon as you were able to get out of it and start breathing a little bit, you took advantage of it to be a tree bearing fruit. And for me, that's really the basis of a successful reconstruction.
That is, what ensures that now you will not dive again is that you have started bearing fruit. And that keeps your head out of the water, I think. Yes, it's great because our problems, our little personal problems, if I may say so, They are no longer a priority at all.
It becomes secondary. Our little person. Our little person, but we'll take care of it later. There are much more important things to do. And if I had to live that in my life, I accept it.
And if now I can help people who have alcohol problems, who have drug problems, who want to give themselves all the chances, with simply a change of diet, a daily physical work, and also relaxation, because it's important to do a little yoga, meditation, to relax we can choose different ways of course if we put all that on our side, frankly I don't see why we would fail it's really not impossible and I want to testify to that and without medication yes, without Baclofen which is a terrible
poison I don't even know what's on the market 80 % of addictions in France are treated with benzodiazepines, which are a poison. People get sick, it's worse than anything.
I think it's better to be addicted to heroin than to benzodiazepines. It's a hell less. And otherwise, we use Baclofen, which is presented as a panacea to fight alcohol, which is also an extremely addictive product, which is a disaster.
It's another drug. It's another drug, so it's not a solution. So, the real solution is to change your lifestyle to apprehend your emotions in a different way, to have a body that works better, and to understand that addictions are just dysfunctions.
If we need to go that far on alcohol, it's because there are metabolic dysfunctions and it needs to be fixed. And drugs are also a dysfunction of the heart. Because our blood, at our time, the center of the body is in the head.
Most people live with their center in the head. especially in the west, i see it, compared to africa we live there, we live here when we change our diet, and we change our lifestyle this center moves, it goes down in the heart the real center is in the navel, in the belly fatally, it's always there, the famous intestine everything is there, so if we already go down in the heart the game is won Yes, we are out of the mind.
Yes, we are out of the mind. There is a meditation, it is to imagine without a head. We walk, we have no head. We eat, we have no head. It's weird, but we live more in the body.
Eating is complicated. We feel more. I'm afraid of the word easy, because people tell me, yes, it is easy to speak, but no, no, you have to live it, You have to experience it.
And I can assure you that it's possible, that it's not that complicated. With the juices, with the fruits, with the air, with the physical movement, and a certain peace.
Yes, that's important too. It's not that complicated. The outside. One thing I noticed is that here, we will say that 90 % of the awake time is spent outside. 95%, 97 % of the awake time is spent outside.
Whereas at home, it would be quite the opposite. It's 97 % of the awake time spent inside, under neons. And how do you want to charge yourself with energy, when you are only under electric light, which does not give you all the spectrum, all the energy that the sun can give you.
So there are a lot of parameters. It's not just food, it's the whole life cycle. It's everything, it's everything. The more we purify ourselves, the more we return to nature.
We become sensitive, fatally. we feel more the aggressions, we feel the noise, the air that is not good so we retreat, we retreat like an animal, we need our place and it's normal, so welcome to everyone who wants to try yes, in this project that you have with Martaba and Youssou i will put their coordinates, it's very simple, i want to clarify we are not in a luxury spa, no no It's really a warm welcome, with little means, but it's also something that illustrates
this sentence that I like, the one who does not want to do it finds reasons, and the one who wants to do it finds solutions. And you want to do it, you have very little means. I can say that Martaba and Youssou live in a chosen poverty, but which...
A freedom! Yes, a freedom, a free poverty, let's say, which is just amazing for a Westerner. I laughed this morning when I was looking for a mirror to shave, that I found a poor man at the end of a mirror, who was hanging somewhere in a palm tree.
It's so gay to live without a mirror. Yes, but it's very good, I was thinking about it too, it's very, very, very good. And really the proof that finally all these changes are within our reach.
and that when we say to ourselves, I can't, you have the illustration, and there are many who are in the illustration, that if we want to close the doors, we close them. If we go with the heart, with enthusiasm, and we know what we want and we don't let go, we don't let go, we say, I will not let go, and we say to ourselves, okay, I no longer accept that this life is lived as a slave life, to be exploited,
to live in an environment in which I breathe a disgusting air, I drink disgusting water, I can't grow my vegetables, I'm forced to live under neon lights. Well, I choose to get rid of a lot of things, okay? There are no square-frame screens, there are no magnetoscopes, there are no cinemas, there are no showers, there are buckets to wash, and that's even possible in France.
I know that I lived for a long time in a caravan, for example, when I was younger, I had nothing, but I was free. And I think it's the most beautiful of riches, and that's what I find beautiful in your testimony, Viviane. It's a joy to have you here.
It's a great joy. I'm going to put the coordinates of Youssef and Martaba because they are really, beyond the place where they live, beyond what you propose as a project, they are also, in your company, just extraordinary people.
I really want to testify to this. I don't have the easy qualification, but here, really, I'm stomached. We will also try to add, at the end of this video, some sequences that we will shoot on Lacrosse.
We're going to go to your house to show your house and what you did there. I'm really happy to see you after two years. Me too, Thierry. Don't let me believe that it would be such a beautiful story, but thank you.
Thank you sincerely for inviting us too. It's not over. No, I'm so happy. It's wonderful. Thank you. Thank you, Myriam. Hello and welcome to the Jungle Temple.
So here I present to you, it's the little kitchen. It's here that we cook. We make wood fire. You didn't introduce Martaba. Oh sorry. Hello and welcome to the Jungle Temple in the south of Senegal in Casamance.
I present to you my friend Martaba, who has been living here with Nyusu for 5 years. So we're going to start visiting a little bit. So here we are in the kitchen. We are in the kitchen. The kitchen, the counter The kitchen, the counter The fire is behind And that's it, it's simple Let's continue, we'll show you the garden Yes, let's go, I'll follow you And like that we'll see the place So here it was slightly deforested To be able to clear some space But the forest is all around The forest is all around,
very dense, very alive Now we're going to the vegetable garden We're going to the vegetable garden This is the gym, the gym of the area. Here is the gym, here you can pull the water, carry the buckets and go to row.
With Youssou, who is the husband of Martaba. This is the well. It's the well of water. It's a beautiful well, by the way. This is the garden that is in progress.
By the way, there were bananas that were planted there. We prepared big holes. Youssou prepared big holes to be able to feed the earth. Yes, by putting a little bit of cleaners everywhere.
Here are the cleaners from the center. It's really a typical African vegetable garden with the crops in the hollows. I've seen them a lot. That's exactly what we do almost everywhere in Senegal to keep the water.
Yes, because here we are at the end of the dry season. In about a month, we'll be back in the harvest season. And then, everything will change. We'll start working on the rice. And there will be less watering to do.
But planting rice is something very hard. I'm going to test it this year. Yes, by the way, we can talk about it in another video. I'll follow you. We continue the visit.
With the sound of the chicken in the well, very typical. And the forest there is everywhere, all around, it's true that it's extraordinary. In the morning, it's noisy with the birds, it's something beautiful.
The wind in the foliage. There are already a lot of trees that have been planted here. We didn't stay, as you say, but Youssou automatically plants fruit trees.
Yes, of course. Yes, and you also work a lot on Moringa. For example, here too, we really appreciated the preparation based on Moringa. Youssou and Martabar dry it a lot, make Moringa powder.
This is also the place where you paint, Martaba. Yes. The place where you paint, the place where Celestin, my friend, comes to sculpt. By the way, beautiful sculptures. Here we do meditation, here also yoga.
And that's it, it's all simple. There is not much, but at the same time there is everything. That's it, that's it. There is not much, but there is everything.
There is just the essential, the necessary. The abundance, the abundance, the abundance. So these are the little houses in which we live. Very simple. A little net, a little mosquito net, which we didn't even need.
Come on, I'll follow you into the forest. I follow you Marta. Over there? We go by the forest? a little bit of the environment It looks like a fig tree! Do you have fig trees around here?
It's a fig tree! Even an expatriate Catalan knows what a fig tree is! It's a fig tree! They're capitalizing on bananas and figs! I don't know, that's not right And the cashews, that's a cashew tree They fell I'm following you It reminds me of the video I made I'm going to link it It reminds me of the video I made One of the most beautiful videos for me in the Permaculture Center in the United States.
For me, it's one of the most beautiful. This feeling of exuberance, of enormous vegetation around its power, I really liked it. And those who have never seen this video, I really advise you to watch it, to take the time to watch it, because for me, it's one of the most beautiful experiences I've had here.
Here, look. Here, look, I'll show you the cashews. There are a few of them, if you want to take them like this, I'll show you. Here are the cashew nuts.
The famous cashew nuts that we buy in whole packets. The nut is there, and the fruit is there. And besides, we never hear about it. It's a very fruity juice, with a little bit of astringency, it's very good.
And so now we have the cashew nut left. And the cashew nut, here, they are used to grilling it. Why? Because inside there is a kind of gel, a gel that makes the nut inedible, as is the green plum.
And that may explode when you eat it, supposedly. I don't believe it. I think it explodes when you set it on fire. I also know that in Indonesia they manage to get raw cashews, and we find raw cashews.
But what touched me a lot is to say to myself, OK, when we buy raw cashews in whole packages, what does it represent as a job behind? Because we went to pick cashews today, I can tell you that when you pick cashews, or simply when you prepare coconuts with a machete, instead of buying them from Asians who are already ready, well, it really relativizes, and we don't tend to overeat them, because it takes a lot of work.
But here, the cashew, I admit that I didn't eat as many cashews as that, because I don't know how to prepare them raw, I don't know how to open them to keep them raw, so I wasn't interested in cooked ones, but the fruit, the cashew fruit, wow, I'll take it for you, the cashew fruit, that's the big, big, big discovery.
Come on, let's keep walking. Here you go, like that, let's keep walking. I'll take it. Come on. Oh, and what I also like is to be barefoot.
Look at this. You'll see. There's a counter-sun. You'll see. There are mangroves. There are wild mangroves all over here. And on the outskirts of the villages, there are mangroves, seriously, there are hundreds and hundreds of mangroves on it.
It's just beautiful. It looks like fig tree I don't know Go Likai Go go go go Another cashew Look at the small nuts coming And this is the kind of path we walk everyday which is just extraordinary, with wild avocados, with mangos, with cashews, a magnificent greenhouse, there are much larger greenhouses.
Mango, mango, is that a cashew? Ah no, a beautiful mango there. There are fruits on the ground, a fruit carpet, it's the abundance. Yeah, and cashews.
The abundance is good. Look, there are cashews everywhere. That's why I'm taking it. It's super good. I hope it will make you want to do it too and I must admit that in Senegal I had the same experience here we are under the eucalyptus trees here we are under the tropics, so all these layers of vegetation come very quickly but in France we have to do it all over again because we don't really have a choice and we really need to prepare ourselves quickly for a drastic transition to avoid a painful experience I
don't think we have any other choice than to prepare it together and here we are they want to show us a cheese so the cheese is not a tree in Rockport it's a sumptuous tree, which is a dominant tree around here This morning, when we were on the road, we saw a big, big snake. There are some nice snakes around here By the way, Youssou, Martaba's husband, told me that...
Which color? Black one Maybe cobra Yes, a cobra I think Are they not dangerous? No, they are not dangerous, they run away We saw one or two cobras And Youssou also told me that Their dogs had little puppies And one of them was eaten by a 4-meter-long constrictor It's quite a big piece to imagine how it's going to be she tells me 4 meters is not dangerous for humans it's 7 meters she tells me the only danger is at night you have to have a torch to not walk on it otherwise they all run away when they see people This is a traditional house with a choum roof.
Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer choum roofs like this, I prefer the atoll. And here, the same, cashews, mangoes, everywhere, everywhere, everywhere, coconuts, coconuts are delicious.
It was not the young coconuts this season, but the coconuts are absolutely delicious. And what I liked in this part of the south Senegal, we are in Casamance, it is really This mixture of roughness, roughness and luxuriance.
And again, we are at the end of the dry season. According to what I was told, in two months, it will be the mango season. I need to find a pretext to come and film again in two months.
And it will be the mango season, and it will be the humid season. There will be heavy rains, tropical rains. The vegetation is literally exploding. I think it's not bad at all. And here we come to the cheese.
With its roots still quite amazing. Here is a beautiful cheese. The roots make an incredible drape. These are tunics that have been hanged there, which are used for traditional dances. And so we arrive at Myriam's house, with the ocean at 3 minutes and the La Crosse On the other side, after a minute or so.
She dug a well. And here is her little house. So this is your home? And here it is, welcome to the Banana House. Hello my love, come on, come on, my love, my love, don't be afraid, And that's where you live.
Welcome, come in, come in. That's what you have. You left a 30 square meters of Yezhoa for a small house by the sea, by the cross. I left a 120 square meters of Yezhoa.
Really? Yes, that's it. To make a simple house. Did you build this house? No, I didn't build it. You had it built. I had it built, but I did the finishing.
I helped to make the fabric, I made the holes, I painted. And you borrowed this land? No, no, I bought it. Ah, you bought it? Yes, yes, I bought it.
Wow, okay. Yes, with your last savings. When I stopped drinking, I worked for a year. And all the money I made in photography, I put it here.
You can visit. I present to you my love It's beautiful This is the kitchen area I don't know what to do And in front, the bananas So the banana tree is at the bottom, we're going to go there, all the way.
There on the right, there is the ocean, which is at what? Oh, it is at 5 minutes, it is at 5 minutes. There is the little lake.
So what you don't see yet, but there is a river that passes there. And that's how the bananas self-suffice. These bananas don't need to be watered. Well, it takes a little maintenance, but there is no watering.
The water of the river is filtered by the soil It removes the salt Ok, because it's a salty river It's a salty river Lacrosse is salty, the sea is salty This little lake you see there, they are salty too Ok But the soil filters the salt That's what's extraordinary This is your little paradise My little paradise I understand So it's your home here, it's cool. Have you ever been an owner?
No, never. I don't feel like an owner. I would never feel like an owner because the planet doesn't belong to us. So I would never feel like an owner. However, I can exploit and love a plot and exploit it to help others.
And the well was already there? Or did you make it? No, we made the wells. So there are two wells and two tanks. Fatou came this morning and filled them, so I water the ornamental banana trees, which also give.
So when a banana tree gives its regime, it takes the shot. And that's all the little ones. Listen, we're going to go see the banana tree. So that's great! I don't know...
Myriam? Why are there bushes here? Is it to plant bananas? No, all of this is potato peels Ok All the fields you see here have potato peels But they do it once every two years So they dig before the rainy season So the trenches fill up with water And we never need to water It's four months, then we have potatoes.
Okay. So this is the Salé river? That's it. The river that comes from that little lake over there. and here is the banana plantation so the sand filters the sea water and gives water so you don't need to water these bananas It's impressive because it's a very humid area Yes, you see, it's weird Compared to the drought a few meters away Here you have an area Yes, there is water percolating It's dug, you see, at 1.50 meters And we immediately have a well It's a funny story The sea water percolates
through the sand And the trees draw fresh water It filters seawater, so it's a fresh area. We have mint, nana. It's the official sign. And so the principle of the banana is that the bananas that are produced here, then you are going to distribute them to Dakar, right? I go to Dakar from time to time, but in general it's for all the Dharas that are located around the lake.
So what are Dharas? Dharas are Koranic schools. It's a Marabout who takes care of that. There are about 30-40 children, from 4 to 15 years old. They have 6 hours of Magal to do per day, that is, of charity.
They do the Mange, and they learn the Koran. These children are not always well taken care of, they never eat food. You were telling me that some marabouts are badly treated.
Yes, they are sometimes tied up, badly fed, they walk on foot in the city. All the bananas that are produced here go to the farms. I'm the one who carries them, I like to see them because I want to control them, that they are distributed to the children.
